5/11/20: Margaret Haltom, The Next Southern Landmark

Date:
Monday, May 11, 2020 - 7:00pm

Margaret Haltom, a Memphian and urban planning student at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, presents her master’s thesis, “The Next Southern Landmark”. Created in collaboration with LSP, her thesis explores the context of, and processes for, placing landmarks to counter Confederate iconography. She looks to the recent removals of Confederate monuments, as well as LSP’s commitment to uncovering the history of racial terror, to outline how community coalitions, urban planners and designers might collaboratively approach the past, present and future of former Confederate monuments.
